Keep your pants on!
Star Trek beachwear and a Trek across the Atlantic. Plus the Bob Ross of Star Trek?
Welcome to Star Trekking, my attempt to share points of interest and random intersections in the final frontier.
Here’s a bonus mid-week issue for you because why not?
Today, we start with fashion.
First off, here’s some hard truth.
A few days ago, my friend Charlie went shopping and came across this.
If you’ve been around this newsletter (or my Twitter account) for a while, you know I love seeing Trek-like colors and patterns in the fashion world.
I don’t own any Trek costume pieces, but I sure enjoy looking at them and so I was very tempted to buy the Star Trek Costumes book when it came out a couple years ago. Now that I can take a look inside the book via this unboxing video, I’m again contemplating it.
I came across this video review of a Discovery jacket.
The jacket is from Volante Designs who also created a lot of other Trek-inspired jackets.
I’d not heard of them before but I am certainly intrigued.
Meanwhile, speaking of jackets, Ryan sent over the following gem.
The clip features Shatner breaking boards and slicing vegetables with a samurai sword, all while wearing the greatest circus outfit ever.
Wondering if my wife would go for a similar home makeover.
You never know what you might find on YouTube. For instance, here’s a guy painting a happy little starship.
And speaking of paintings, you probably need this one in your home.
Love spotting Trek references in the news.
For instance: Meet the Mayflower 400.
With its dart-shaped central hull, stabilised by wing-like outriggers, Mayflower 400 looks from above like a Starfleet fighter from Star Trek.
Nifty interactive article from Sky News on a new ship that will soon be crossing the Atlantic all by itself.
No captain. No crew. No human contact.
Within the next few weeks, the world's most technologically advanced ship will slip its moorings in Plymouth and begin a pioneering 3,000-mile journey across the Atlantic.
Engage.
Here’s a class worth taking: a presentation and discussion titled “Star Trek to Judaism and Beyond.”
Boldly go on a journey through time and space in a conversation about the Jewish and American values represented on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Learn about how a man with a dream brings together African Americans, Jews, and humanoid alien species of the future as allies inspired by the story of the Exodus.
Want to learn more about the Argo? Of course you do.
Want to be a pinball wizard? Live near Clovis CA? Well have I got an auction for you.
Teach your children well.
To tie up the boat and swimwear theme, I thought I should remind you of Love Boat: the Next Generation.
There’s also this.
And this.
Welcome aboard!
I leave you with a sea shanty. The greatest cover version of the Inner Light theme EVER.
Until next time,
LOVE long…and prosper, matey.
