Welcome to Star Trekking, my attempt to share points of interest and random intersections in the final frontier.
It’s the ongoing thesis of this newsletter that Star Trek is everywhere, whether you’re actively looking for it or not.
This week I found it in my inbox, in historian Annette Laing’s Substack newsletter, Non-Boring History.
I seldom post links…but HUGE hand to the folks at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, for this brilliant video review by a Klingon. Yes, from Star Trek. You guys are never going to believe I’m not a Star Trek fan, but I’m really not! This, however, is hilarious.
And what a great way to say “We’re not as stuffy as you think” and “Black visitors are welcome at Mount Vernon now, even as Klingons.”
I find that both Annette and I are late to this party - it seems to have first appeared as an April Fools prank back in 2017 (as was covered by TrekMovie back then). But this is the first time I’ve seen it.
I can only hope that soon we get a production of Hamilton in the original Klingon.
Until then, I guess we’ll have to make do with ‘u’ the Klingon Opera.
Of course the big news this week is the arrival of Star Trek The Motion Picture in 4K. TrekMovie’s Brian Drew says of this new Director’s Edition, “The various changes, large and small, greatly enhance the story the film is trying to tell and truly let it stand as the most epic of the Star Trek feature films. Even longtime detractors might find the film more to their liking now.”
I’m planning to watch as soon as I’m finished writing this issue.
If you didn’t pick up the new 2 CD soundtrack of the film, you can now download/stream Jerry Goldsmith’s glorious music.
We also got a new trailer for Strange New Worlds.
I guess we have to go back and see Spock on Vulcan during pon farr because everything old is new again.
Kroykah!
I just saw a thing called “poetry block” in the Substack tools menu so I am going to try it, after all April is National Poetry Month here in the US of A.
Rocket ships Are exciting But so are roses On a birthday Computers are exciting But so is a sunset And logic Will never replace Love Sometimes I wonder Where I belong In the future Or In the past I guess I'm just An old-fashioned Spaceman
From Warmed by Love, the great poetry collection by everyone’s favorite poet, Leonard Nimoy.
This is old but if you haven’t already seen it…
If you’re still on the fence about giving ST-TMP another chance, check out Darren Franich’s excellent appreciation of the film (written back in 2016).
And another great review of the new 4K edition, from Dan Cooper at Engadget.
To all of you who don’t yet have access to this new edition, well, I don’t know what to tell you.
And in other news, surely you’ve seen this.
More Klingon music for you.

I’m not a gamer, but maybe you are? “Star Trek Resurgence is a game changer.”
Let’s end with another Leonard Nimoy poem.
Thank you For a world of kindness Thank you For your endless patience Thank you For your sensitive understanding Thank you For your Love
Almost brings a tear to this old Vulcan eye.
That’s it for now. Time for me to fire up the ol’ PPlus for some ST-TMP action.
Until next time, remember -
The human adventure is just beginning. Literally.
